Dexter Williams is a 2005 SS/3B from Apopka, FL. Williams is a very big and real strong young third baseman/shortstop with a 6'3", 210 lb. frame that could get even stronger. He’s still an agile athlete for his size, running a 7.2 on a slow track and showing good range and quickness on defense. His arm strength is very good as well and he looks like an above average defensive infielder. Williams left two different impressions with the bat. During batting practice he had limited use of his lower half and was long and slow to the ball, resulting in many jam shots to right field. In games he had a much better, more relaxed approach and made consistent hard contact, including three line shot singles up the middle. Williams appears to be a middle of the field hitter with strong hands and above average hand/eye coordination. It would be interesting to see him try an approach that would let him use his strength and bat head skills with more loft and pull in his swing. He projects to hit with big time power. Dexter is an outstanding student.
