Whinery is a catcher with a good looking body and playable arm behind the dish. He can get his pop times under 2.0 on occasion and although he did not take infield at 1B, he appeared to have the glove and athleticism to play there. His bat was his best overall tool. He hit the ball hard and missed a HR by inches on one hit to center field. He showed a fast bat and the ball jumped off fast nearly every swing. He was not beat by a fastball all weekend and he even showed nice ability to stay back on the breaking pitch by ripping a hard curveball to left field. If there is one area that he needs to work on most, it would be his speed. He ran a laser timed 7.64 on a fast, wind-aided track and he showed a slow first step out of the box. Excellent student. 1410 ACT
