Matthew Barker is a 2010 RHP/2B with a 5'7'', 141 lb. frame from Chesapeaker, VA who attends Deep Creek HS. He has a small frame with a very young look to him. Barker has a full hands over head delivery and a compact arm action that leads to a high 3/4's release point. His fastball was up to 75 mph and was fairly straight. Barker had a high wrap on his curveball that tipped the pitch to hitters and that he'll have to make some adjustments on in the future. Barker worked quickly and threw strikes with both pitches and made hitters swing the bat. His development as a pitcher will depend on getting stronger and improving his curveball mechanics. Barker likes to compete and played hard when he wasn't on the mound. He swings the bat well and made solid line drive contact and could develop as a hitter as he gets stronger. He is a good student.
