Derek Goyne is a 2008 MIF with a 6'0'', 170 lb. frame from Marshall, TX who attends Elysian Fields. Derek is a slender and very athletic middle infielder. He runs well, and has good instincts on the bases. He ran a 7.30 sixty, and uses that speed to put pressure on the defense by getting out of the box hard every time. He hits from an open stance and has bat speed. He sprays the ball to all fields, and does well taking the outside pitch to right field. He has a nice flat bat path that produces line drives and flashes pop. He will collapse his backside at times, usually on balls down in the zone that he tries to go down and get. Defensively he has very good footwork, and range to the hole as well as up the middle. His exchange is very smooth, and he gets rid of the ball very quickly. He works very hard in the field, and isn't afraid to get dirty. Derek is also a good student.
