On the mound he throws from an over the top arm slot, with a top fastball velocity of 78 mph. He has a balanced motion with some arm speed, and he stays online throughout his delivery. He works quickly, and commands his pitches well. Defensively he has good footwork in both the outfield and infield. He uses his front side well and buries to accelerate his arm. He also makes a good high exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly. He has some arm strength, with a top throw from the outfield at 80 mph, and 78 mph from the infield. At the plate Matthew stays on the ball well hitting from a crouched stance and makes solid contact.
