2007 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Alex de Marne is a 2008 LHP with a 6'1'', 160 lb. frame from Bellevue,WA who attends Issaquah HS. He has a tall and slender build that is going to fill out in the coming years. When de Marne does get stronger he is going to emerge as a quality D1 prospect, sooner or later, because he can pitch and knows what he is doing. He pitches from an over the top slot with a cross body stride. de Marne has some unique footwork over the rubber early in his wind-up that can divert a hitter's attention. Though he has pretty average arm speed and his arm works with low effort, the ball comes out of his hand well. His fastball was 79-81 mph with movement that improved as he got further in his outing. Look for his fastball to pick up steam as he gets stronger. de Marne has a slow 65 mph curveball and feel of a 74 mph changeup. He does a nice job of holding runners and generally just has good feel for the game.
