2004 Underclass National Showcase
Joshua Perez -- Perez is a 15 year old freshman catcher from Miami who really impressed us with his defensive skills. He has good strength in his hips and lower body and a still slender upper half. Perez has very good quickness behind the plate and does a good job shifting and blocking pitches. He’s a hustler who even at his young age gives the impression that he’s in charge out on the field. Perez’s arm strength is well above average for his age and he has a very quick release that gives him good pop times. His arm will undoubtedly get even stronger over time. Perez is a switch-hitter who shows much better bat speed and swing path from the left side of the plate. He can hit! He's a very interesting young prospect (9th grader) who is a must follow.
