2005 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Justin Phillips is a 2006 MIF with a 5'8'', 125 lb. frame from Spartanburg, South Carolina, who attends Broome High School. He is a lean player with quickness and athleticism. Defensively he has very good actions. Phillips has soft hands and the ball disappears in his glove. He has nice footwork and is always in the position to make the plays. Phillips has the instincts and foot speed that allow him to cover a great deal of ground in the middle of the diamond. He made a great play up the middle during one of the showcase games. He also has solid arm strength that allow him to make all of the plays. At the plate he is a right handed hitter with quiet hands in his set-up. Phillips has a line drive swing plane and makes consistent contact to the middle of the diamond. He like the ball down in the zone. Phillips is a top level defensive player with upside.
