2005 Spring Top Prospect
Bernstine is a senior outfielder from Iowa with good athletic quickness and strength. He has a solid lower half and looks bigger than his listed 175 lbs. Bernstine ran the 60 in 7.03 but plays faster on the baseball field. We’ve had him down to first in 4.3 from the right side many times and he shows very good range in centerfield, although he tends to drift to balls in the alley rather than getting to them and waiting. Bernstine also has very good arm strength at 84 mph and is a very good defensive outfielder. At the plate, Bernstine hits from an upright stance with high hands. He’s the type of hitter who is constantly changing his swing mechanics and doing different things, which makes it hard to develop any consistency. The ball jumps off his bat well because of his strength and raw bat speed and he’ll show you some gap to gap power on occasion. Bernstine has committed to attend Ellworth JC.
