LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 California Underclass
Larry Gibson is a 2007 RHP/3B from Canyon Springs HS, residing in Moreno Valley, CA, with a 6'0" 170 lb. frame. Gibson has a good, average pitcher's type build, with enough strength to be effective now and still some room for his body to add strength. On the mound Gibson pitches from an over the top slot, with a long arm action. His arm is pretty loose and he has good mechanics, taking his time during the delivery. Gibson controls his body well and maintains good direction down slope, allowing him to consistently throw strikes. He should continue to work on gaining some front side leverage to increase the length of his stuff Gibson has a 79-80 mph FB that at times shows good arm side sinking action. That FB is most effective when he is pitching off his slider (68-71 mph). He has good command of the slider and it has true slider shape. The action is not sharp but that pitch has a little depth. He does a nice job of pitching off this pitch, which is his best pitch. Gibson can keep hitters off balance when in positive hitting counts and he showed the ability to make in-game adjustments in his pitching approach after relying on the fastball early on, which didn't work. He went to pitching off the slider and was very effective thereafter. Gibson also showed a 71 mph CH. On offense, Gibson, a right handed hitter, showed decent rhythm at the plate. He is a spray type hitter with decent bat speed. His lower half needs a more flexion but he showed some power potential. On defense Gibson has good feet and his arm has some carry. His hands are soft and overall he is a solid defender and thrower. Gibson's ability to pitch with the breaking ball and his feel for pitching was impressive. He should be a follow at the small college level, possibly better, perhaps after junior college.
