2006 California Underclass
Michael Schwartz is a 2007 C/3B from Santa Monica HS, residing in Mar Vista, CA, with a 5'10" 190 lb. frame. Schwartz was named to the top prospect team at the California Underclass Showcase. Has a stocky build but a durable catcher's build. Offensively he showed some bat speed and decent balance. Schwartz has a chance to hit. He has good timing and has some strength. With his pull side approach he has some doubles power, and looks like at the catcher position, his bat is pretty good. Defensively he is a good receiver with good hands. He was an accurate in-game thrower and showed the ability to throw out runners, even without working with pitchers that he is comfortable with. He has a good exchange and will flash sub 2.0 in a workout scenario. Routinely he was 2.15 and on the bag in the games. Schwartch is a good D1 follow prospect and his catch/throw skills are D1 caliber. His all-around skills, including the bat make up a quality college catcher skill set.
