LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Mike McGee is a 2007 right hand hitting shortstop/pitcher from Port St. Lucie HS, residing in Port St. Lucie, FL. He is strong and athletically built with a 6'0" 185 lb. frame. McGee is a hard nosed player and brings a lot to the field. He was ranked #83 among PG National Top 100 position players, in large part due to his abilities as a two-way player. At the plate he hits from a slightly open stance and looked very relaxed at the plate. Time and time again McGee had competitive at-bats, against some very tough pitchers. His hands work well and stayed inside the ball consistently. Clearly he has some feel for hitting and the game in general. McGee seemed to pick up the ball well and made a lot of line drive contact. His swing plane is flat and with good balance and bat speed, not to mention a nice approach of letting the ball travel, he is a tough out. One thing was very apparent and that was that it is very hard to beat McGee with the fastball. Once on the bases, he showed that he can steal a bag. In the field McGee showed a quick first step and good hands. He performed as a very solid defensive player, a gamer type with ability. His arm graded out slightly above average in the field. On the mound he showed a fastball up to 89 mph and good command. Like a lot of middle infielders, he spun a 12/6ish breaking ball well (with depth) and showed pitchability with that pitch. McGee's competitiveness at the plate translated to the mound, where he looked like a quality late inning reliever. He was able to get hitters to offer at his curveball. McGee ran 4.46 home/1st and posted a laser timed 6.97 60. He is a quality D1 prospect and his performance and development in college will dictate his status as a professional prospect.
