Rafael San Andres is a 2008 catcher from Puerto Rico with a solid build that shows good lower half strength at 5'10", 165 pounds. He hits from a wide base with little or no stride and high hands. His swing plane creates a good power angle to the ball. He has strong hands and generates very good bat speed. He makes solid hard contact, and the ball jumps off the bat. Has the potential to hit for big power. San Andres runs well for a catcher with a 7.37 in the 60. Defensively, he has very advanced skills for his age. He shows good lateral movement and excellent blocking skills. He has quick hands and a very quick release. He popped a 2.04 with a strong arm at 73 mph. Rafael is only a 14 year old freshman with excellent skills and lots of room to add strength. He was born to catch and he will be on everyones follow list.
