Robert Shaw -- Shaw is a 6-3 junior catcher from New York with strong square shoulders and impressive projectable strength. Shaw is a very good athlete for his size and position and runs very well underway. He’s an aggressive baserunner who stole some bags and even bunted for a hit one time. Shaw carries the same type of aggression into his catching, where he has the actions of a much smaller receiver. His arm strength from behind the plate was excellent but his footwork on throws was pretty raw, resulting in fair to average pop times. There is no reason he can’t improve here. At the plate, Shaw hit well in games and showed some loft power potential in batting practice. He has a tendency to really drift towards the pitcher during his load, which lengthens his swing and robs him of some of his power. Like the footwork, this is something that repetitions and good coaching can cure. Shaw showed better arm strength from the mound during one inning of mop up work. Despite very rough mechanics, Shaw touched 85 mph. He’s a very good student with a high ceiling on the baseball field. Keep a close eye on this player.
