Ben Urista is a 2007 C/2B/P with a 5'11'', 170 lb. frame from Redlands CA, who attends Redlands East Valley. Urista has a nice body with a lean althletic build. Defensively he is a good receiver and moves well behind the plate. He has really improved his catch and throw ability since last year as he dropped nearly a quarter of a second off his pop time in a year. Urista has arm strength with carry on his throws to second base. At the plate, he starts with a slightly open stance and keeps his feet wide. He gets closed well at load and stays balanced through his swing. Urista has a line drive swing path with a short compact stroke. He has present gap to gap pop with the ability to hit the ball to all fields. He pitches from a 3/4 arm slot and has a clean arm action. Urista has an online balanced delivery and throws with little effort. He gets depth on his curveball and gets sink on his change up. Urista is a very good student.
