Ryder Ryan is a 2014 3B/C/RHP/OF with a 6-3 205 lb. frame from Huntersville, NC who attends North Mecklenburg HS. Strong athletic build, has filled out over the last year. Extremely versatile defensive player, can play catcher, pitcher, third base and corner outfield with tools and skills, very difficult to determine which he's best at, shows flashes at all positions, has athletic first step reactions and bit arm strength everywhere, may benefit at the next level from specializing at one position. Right handed hitter, balanced approach with a hand hitch start, strength in swing with present bat speed, has some lift and upper cut plane and drives the ball to the gaps, keeps his approach simple and direct, projects as a hitter. Balanced tall delivery, simple on line mechanics, clean arm circle, works downhill and repeats his delivery. Upper 80's fastball, topped out at 90 mph, mostly straight, soft sweeping curveball, have seen more velocity in the past and would likely see more now with less throwing as a position player. Unique player due to his versatility and tool package, will be fun to see how and where he develops in the future. Good student, verbal commitment to North Carolina.
