Alex Lucas is a 2007 C from Glynn Academy in St Simons Island, GA, with a 5'10'', 175 lb. frame. He has exception quickness and body life for a young catcher, with good lower body strength and a slender upper half. Lucas ran the 60 in 6.97 and shows very good blocking and shifting skills behind the plate due to his quick actions. Lucas threw 74 mph during drills with a best pop time of 1.98. With his solid arm strength and quickness, Lucas could easily be throwing in the 1.8's if he stayed more compact on his release. He's a good looking defensive catcher with very nice defensive tools for the position. Offensively, Lucas hits out of a narrow base with good balance and a limited load and stride. He's primarily an upper half rotational hitter who gets little from his lower half during his swing. Lucas has some raw bat speed and makes solid line drive contact to the right side. He has the athletic ability and strength to improve as a hitter with some adjustments. His defensive skills and athleticism will give him plenty of time to develop offensively. Lucas is also a good student off the field.
