2015 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Matt Flummerfelt is a 2015 SS/RHP with a 5-11 170 lb. frame from Ames, IA who attends Ames HS. Medium frame with athletic build with present strength and room for additional build. Hits from open stance, shifts into contact very well with a short stroke and quick hands. Consistently good approach. Middle field approach, very good bat speed, shows gap power at present and will develop more with added strength. Mostly linear swing plane at present but flashed ability to backspin ball into gaps. Worked out in the infield, showed very strong and accurate arm across the diamond, topping at 88 MPH. Smooth actions with good hands, light on feet with range to both sides. Projects to the left side of the infield in college. Charges well and clears hips well to make accurate throws. On the mound, employs up tempo delivery with a big leg kick, worked with FB/SL/CH combo. Repeats delivery well, though it does have a bit of head violence and is pretty max effort. Good arm strength, worked in the 82-85 range with fastball. Generates plane from high 3/4 slot, gets life on FB when located down. SL shows two-plane break when on, but can get a bit loose. Good feel for CH, thrown with same arm speed and from same keyhole as FB, but can get a bit firm and straight. Signed with Northern Illinois.
