John Thompson is a 2016 RHP/IF with a 5-10 180 lb. frame from Peculiar, MO who attends Raymore-Peculiar HS. Medium athletic build, good present strength for his age, especially in his hips and core. Hand drop delivery, stays tall in his delivery, compact arm action, tight high 3/4's arm slot, tends to open early and lose torque from his strong lower 1/2. Upper 70's fastball, topped out at 79 mph, mostly straight with good downward plane, maintained velocity well. Slider best breaking ball, has late biting action and some two-plane depth, tends to cast curveball with soft spin. Rare change up but showed good arm speed. Pounds the zone with all pitches and competes. Left handed hitter, toe tap trigger, good balance with a short, direct path to the ball, fluid swing, get get more lower half involvement, solid overall hitting mechanics and consistent line drive contact, has hitting tools to develop. Very good student.
