2005 Pitcher/Catcher Indoor Showcase
Brett Pankau is a 2005 right handed pitcher from Illinois with broad shoulders and a well conditioned athletic look to him at 5'9". Pankau has a compact delivery with a low wrap in back that hides the ball in back and some recoil out front. He’s a finesse pitcher with four different pitches that he mixed up and threw for strikes. Pankau’s fastball was 74-78 mph with occasional cutting action when he came across it out front. His best secondary pitch was probably a split finger change at 64 mph that had good tumbling action. He also threw a straight change and a big breaking slow curveball in the lower 60’s. There really isn’t any reason with his release point and arm action that he couldn’t learn a slider off his fastball as well. He is a right handed hitter who hits from an open stance with solid bat speed. He shows strength in his swing, but made inconsistent contact. Pankau has the athletic ability to make adjustments with his swing and keep his front side closed longer. Pankau is a good student as well.
