Kyle Payne is a 6-0, 165 lb senior right handed pitcher from Canada. He's a submariner in the true Chad Bradford style, even down to imitating Bradford's bent over "pre-set" position that he starts from. We didn't check Payne's knuckles for evidence of scrapping the dirt on the way through his delivery but it wouldn't have surprised us if there were signs. Payne's fastball was up to 78 mph but he loses command and movement at that speed and his fastball moves best around 75 mph. He throws a 67 mph sweeping slider that has good spin and surprisingly gets some downward plane to it, although we don't understand the physics with that. Payne didn't throw a change up but this would be a big, big pitch for him if he was able to master one. Hitters are already uncomfortable facing him but don't really have any timing issues once they make their adjustments. Very few pitchers throw with this style, though, and Payne can be very effective in relief against any lineup if used properly. He's also a good student.
