Joseph Loftus is a 2008 3B/P with a 6'3'', 200 lb. frame from Savage, MN who attends Academy of Holy Angels. Strong, well proportioned third base build. Bat speed, line drive swing, some whip in the bat, hits thru the ball, power to come/maybe big power. Athletic actions, good speed for his size, arm strength is solid for third base. Knows how to play for Northern tier prospect. Excellent student.

Loftus is a 6-3, 190 lb sophomore infielder from Savage, Minnesota, with a big time athletic body. He projects best at third base in the future. Loftus ran the 60 in 7.65 and threw a solid 81 mph during infield drills. He showed smooth fielding mechanics during the drills with soft hands. At the plate, Loftus has good balance and rhythm to his approach. He has a hand hitch trigger that he'll have to make some adjustments with as the game speeds up but generates very good bat speed and leverage through the zone. Loftus projects plus pull power and showed us his power at the showcase with some long shots to left field. He's going to terrorize Minnesota high school pitchers for the next three years. Loftus also pitched and showed prospect level ability as well. His fastball was 81-83 mph from a low 3/4's release point and a very sharp 71 mph curveball. If Loftus wasn't such a good hitting prospect we'd spend more time talking about him as a primary pitcher with a high ceiling. Either way, Loftus could very well be a national level college recruit if he keeps working hard and developing his talents. Top level follow.
