2005 California Top Prospect Showcase
Wesley Vo is a 2006 OF/P from Seaside HS, residing in Prunedale, CA, with a 5'9", 150 lb. frame. He has a wiry strong body with long arms. Vo hits from a square stance. He has good bat speed and is long through hitting zone, allowing him to get to more pitches than many hitters. He competes well at the plate and seemingly does not give away many if any at-bats. Vo is a good opposite field, line drive type hitter who handles the fastball well. Much of what he brings offensively suggest that he has abilities that match a leadoff hitter; pesky, aggressive, contact ability, line drive hitter, handles the fastball well, sees pitches. From the outfield he makes quality and accurate low arc throws and has an efficient approach to ball. He will make the plays he is supposed to and doesn't look like the type of player that will make foolish fielding mistakes. Vo has a sling type arm action and the ball has some carry. In general, it is a good arm. On the mound he pitches from a 3/4 slot with a short backside arm action. Vo has a compact delivery and gets good extension at the finish. His fastball (78-81) has tailing action and is somewhat sneaky. He does a nice job of keeping the ball down and competing with his stuff. Vo maintains good arm speed on offspeed stuff, including a curveball (66-68) and a change-up (69-73). A slight adjustment allowing his fingers to get more to the front of his curveball will enhance the action on that pitch. He goes after hitters well on the mound, is an excellent student, and a competitive player that can and compete for many college programs. When his body is able to gain some physical mass, much of what he can do will be greatly enhanced.
