2006 California Uncommitted Showcase
Dustin Shafer is a 2007 3B/2B/OF with a 5'10'', 190 lb. frame from Fontana CA, who attends Etiwanda HS. He has a strong, physical, well developed and well-proportioned body. Shafer just looks like a 3rd baseman. There were times during the showcase when he also showed the type of tools that profile real well at 3rd base. He is one of those players that may be on the verge of breaking out during the spring of his senior season. Offensively his strength stands out. He has good bat speed and the ball jumps off his bat. He showed a line drive power stroke to all fields. With some lift in his swing there are home runs in his future. Shafer's hands work well and he has a nice hand path. Consider him an RBI type of hitter. Defensively Shafer has a good arm that tracks well across the diamond, with accuracy. His hands are good and his feet work, moving to and through the ball well. He is a solid defensive player. Shafer also got on the mound and touched up to 82 with the fastball, though he is not a pitcher. He has D1 ability both with the bat and the glove and is going to hit in college. His grades may push im to a JC but follow him there, the bat is interesting.
