Ruben Diaz is a 2007 RHP/OF with a 6'0'', 146 lb. frame from Chino Hills, CA, who attends Ayala HS. Diaz has a tall, lean and projectable frame. On the mound he throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with a short arm circle on the back side. He has a quick and loose arm that works well. Diaz pitches against a stiff front leg and throws across his body. His fastball topped out at 82 mph with zip in the zone. He also mixes in a 68 mph curveball with sharp bite that can be a strikeout pitch. Diaz also throws a 71 mph change with arm side run. He showed good control and worked the corners of the plate. Offensively he hits from a slightly closed stance with a line drive swing plane. Diaz has solid bat speed with a short and compact swing. He consistently puts the ball in play, and has a good awareness of the strike zone. Defensively he has a strong arm from the OF and the ball jumps out of his hand. He moves well to the ball, and should limit runners from taking the extra base. A two-way prospect with upside.
