Cody Thompson is a 2007 P/OF with a 6'0'', 165 lb. frame from Nevada MO, who attends Nevada HS. He has a medium, projectable frame and good looseness. Thompson has a sound mechanical delivery, with good hip turn and rotation and a compact and easy arm action. He does a good job of hiding the ball in his delivery and his fastball looks harder than the radar gun says it is. Thompson will occasionally throw with extra effort and when he does this he opens up early and his arm lags behind. Thompson's fastball topped out at 82 mph with very good running life. His change up at 69 mph has the same type of big tail away from right handed hitters and is a good pitch. Thompson's curveball was up to 71 mph with good sweeping action. He does tend to shorten his arm stroke on his curveball, which will tip off hitters at the higher levels. Thompson's movement and deception are big plusses and he looks like he'll add some velocity as he gets stronger. He is a good student.
