17U WWBA Scout Notes: Day 1

Team Elite 17U Scout Team cruised to a 2-0 record in pool play on Saturday afternoon by way of a 14-2 victory.

Christian Little (2021, St. Louis, MO) got the start and was solid, though his fastball command was a little wavery in this outing. Little is a strongly-built, physical righthander who is one of the younger players in the class, having just recently turned 17 years old. He’s got a pretty smooth operation on the mound in general, though he was having some trouble really getting over his front side in this one and missed up consistently as a result. It’s a quick arm, and he ran his fastball up to 93 mph a handful of times, settling into the 88-92 mph range, showing good carry through the zone and missing a fair number of bats with it up in the zone. The changeup was ahead of the curveball in this look, thrown around 80 mph with good arm speed and fade, showing a potentially above-average future. The curveball release wasn’t there, as the inconsistencies working over his front side manifested into not getting the curveball spun out front enough, but it’s easy to see that a simple small adjustment could quickly turn it into a hammer curveball. Committed to Vanderbilt, Little will have a choice to make between Vandy and the draft.
