WWBA Sophomore Arrives in Fort Myers

As Southwest Florida awaits Hurricane Helene, it also welcomes 72 different teams from across the country to the 2024 WWBA Sophomore World Championship.

Featuring teams from 21 different states (and one from Puerto Rico), this tournament packs a range of talent unlike many that we see throughout the year from Florida and Alabama all the way to Arizona and California.



In last year’s event, MBA 2026 Scout Team Murphy took the title with the help of many top prospects including Florida commit and No. 4 ranked Brady Harris and right-handed pitcher and No. 14 ranked Wilson Andersen.

As was the same last year, a couple of top prospects will also be appearing in this year’s tournament.

Sitting at the top of that list is No. 7 Max Hemenway. In the 2024 calendar year, the 16-year-old has a batting average of .340 with 12 runners batted in - in 53 at-bats and 21 games played. The Tennessee commit from Puyallup, Washington will be playing with Wow Factor American who is based in Atlanta, Georgia. Wow Factor is coming in hot after being named co-champion in the 2024 16U PG Southeast Fall Frenzy in Marietta, Georgia last weekend.

Next on the list of prospects to look out for is 15-year-old Jacob Seamon - currently ranked No. 19 nationally. With a batting average of .364, 11 runners batted in and 6 stolen bases in 13 games and 33 at-bats, he’s adding to an already very talented South Charlotte Panthers 2027 Marucci team this weekend.

Another extremely talented team competing is Canes National 16U from Fredericksburg, Virginia. Their record stands at 5-1 overall and with top 100 talent like Christopher (CJ) Wall, Graham Houston and South Carolina commit Griffin McKain, they’ll look to add to that win column.

Finally, one last team to keep an eye out for coming into the weekend is 5 Star Mafia 16U Black out of Warner Robins, Georgia. Harry Chubb Jones Jr. tops the list of skill - currently ranked at No. 22 nationally. Teammates of his to look out for include Bobby Wooten, Cole Bowman, and Hudson Sapp.

Due to the incoming storm on Florida’s gulf coast, the schedule for this weekend will be announced by the end of the day on Thursday, September 26. Competition has already been pushed back one day from what was originally intended.
