2018 Mid-Atlantic Prospect Showcase
Alex Ungar is a 2020 SS/RHP with a 6-2 174 lb. frame from Ronkonkoma, NY who attends Connetquot. Tall frame with long limbs and a lean build. Frame projects to support additional strength. Primary shortstop with athletic footwork while rounding the baseball. Showed good range while traveling to the baseball to each side. Funnels out front and worked through exchange with fluidity. Loose arm circle and released from a three-quarters slot, flashed ability to throw with accuracy from a lower three-quarters slot as well, topped at 83 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, slightly open stance and simple front side trigger. Shifts into contact with with linear lower half actions. Direct hand path to baseball with a line drive barrel plane through extension. Showed solid feel for the barrel and flashed the ability to turn the bat head to contact with authority. Also pitched showing a smooth side step to medium leg lift delivery. Compact arm circle at take back and released from a three-quarters slot. Fastball jumped out of hand well generated some heavy life through the zone, topped at 84 miles per hour. Curveball had 11/5 shape with good spin and solid depth it the upper 60's. Flashed best curveball depth when maintaining arm speed through extension. Good student. Named to the 2018 Mid-Atlantic Prospect Showcase, Top Prospect List.
