Ethan Valdez is a 2019 SS/MIF, OF, UT, 2B with a 5-6 140 lb. frame from Tampa, FL who attends Tampa Jesuit. Small and compact frame with plenty of filling out still to do. Ran a 7.04 second 60 yard dash. Primary shortstop, plenty of athleticism to the baseball breaking down nicely at gathering position, good footwork from gather shuffling into throws with smoothness, hands work really well and he showed the ability to release the ball very quickly when necessary, good arm strength up to 83 mph across the diamond. Switch hitter, wide base with a high hand set and a high back elbow from the right side, bars load leading to an inside hand path, makes consistent contact with bat to balls mostly to the opposite field. Short swing with a level plane from the left side, some feel for the barrel and carry to his pull side, needs to continue to get stronger for additional bat speed and strength but showed more promise from the lefthanded side at this time.
