2005 National Showcase
Drew Poulk is a 2006 outfielder/right handed pitcher from Morehead City, NC with a good athletic body at 6-3, 185 lbs. He's a very good all around athlete who, with his very projectable body will be called a "tools" player by the professional scouts. Poulk is a very good runner with long easy strides and 6.75 speed in the 60. We understand that he has had an ankle injury and might even be faster than he showed, maybe much faster. He showed nice range in the outfield and can probably play centerfield without any handicap. He can definitely throw from any outfield position with his plus arm that registered 88 mph during outfield drills. We've heard reports of Poulk throwing 90+ off the mound, although he didn't pitch at the National. Offensively, Poulk has an open stance and an aggressive all or nothing swing at the plate which generates serious bat speed and power potential but leaves him vulnerable to some pitches and locations. We're not sure how much Poulk's injury might have be affecting his balance in the batter's box but we suspect it might have. His bat speed and the smoothness of his swing were very impressive, though. Follow this young athlete very carefully, he might have as high a ceiling as any young outfielder in the country. Poulk has signed with North Carolina.
