Gurgone could be either a right hand pitcher or an outfielder for us and be about the same level prospect, which means he should continue to do both if possible. Gurgone got our attention right away throwing 85 mph from the outfield with above average carry. As a pitcher, Gurgone didn’t quite throw that hard but did show a solid 4-pitch array and the willingness to use all 4 pitches at different times in the count. He was mainly 82-83 mph with his fastball but we’d expect he could kick that up a couple of notches if he had to. Gurgone’s best pitches was a 76-81 mph true slider that had a quality late break to it. His curveball and change up were also effective pitches. Gurgone showed a very good approach at the plate and surprising power for his size. He should be a very good situational hitter at the next level and had a number of quality game at bats during the event. He is a 7.44 runner in the 60. Philip is a very good student.
