2006 National Underclass Showcase
Brennan May is a 2008 OF/RHP with a 5'11'', 185 lb. frame from Fayetteville GA, who attends Woodward HS. He has a very live and athletic body, much like a top level cornerback in football. May has that type of speed, as well. He ran the 60 in 6.53 and shows very quick twitch actions. May's baseball actions are very raw and he doesn't appear to have played much baseball. He generates very good bat speed at the plate and the ball jumps hard when he makes contact. He has little in the way of swing fundamentals, though, with busy hands, back side collapse and a long, upper cut swing. If May develops a sound approach at the plate, he has the physical ability to both hit for big power and to use his speed as a high average hitter. May showed nice aggressiveness in the outfield, charging the ball aggressively and getting rid of it well. His speed is obviously a big plus on defense and he has some natural arm strength that could improve with better technique. May also pitched and his pitching is similar to his hitting. He has some arm strength, topping out at 82 mph on his fastball with lots of life down low, with a 72 mph curveball that was occasionally sharp, but his mechanics were too inconsistent and rushed to show what his tool level likely is. May is a high ceiling athlete who could really blossom with better fundamentals and skills. Follow closely. May was named to the showcase Top Prospect Team.
