2015 Top Prospects

Tristin English  RHP - 2015 - Williamson, GA
Georgia Tech

A number of scouts voiced some version of "really??!!" when English sat at 90-94 mph while spotting the ball and showing five distinct pitches during his two inning performance. The two secondary and unspoken thoughts aside from the raw stuff were "It's 9 am and it's January 4 and he's throwing like this?" Just an impressive performance.

Nicholas Shumpert  SS - 2015 - Lone Tree, CO
San Jacinto CC

Of all the many PG events Shumpert has participated in through the years, this was arguably his best one offensively and defensively. His simplified swing and big power really stood out. He's ready for a big spring.

Dexter "DJ" Neal  OF - 2015 - Lithonia, GA
South Carolina

Neal shifted from high profile football recruit to high profile baseball prospect in one weekend. He has lots of the attributes of the kind of athlete that professional baseball rates very highly in the draft....very highly.

Cesar Trejo  SS - 2015 - Greensboro, NC
UNC-Greensboro

Trejo hasn't spent much time outside of North Carolina but scouts are going to have to catch up on him before the draft. He has huge right handed bat speed and put on a show in batting practice along with hitting a game home run. You'll be hearing more about him in the future.

Tyler Huggins  C - 2015 - Boynton Beach, FL
Palm Beach State

Huggins is a catcher but he has athletic tools all over the board. He has a rifle behind the plate (watch him throw from his knees to third base after a strikeout), 6.8 speed in the sixty and a strong right handed swing. He's not ranked in the top 500 right now but could get some serious draft attention this spring when scouts start seeing more of him.

Edrick D Agosto  RHP - 2015 - Cataño, PR
Alabama State/Broward CC

Agosto is an XXL right hander who has done impressive things with toning and improving his body and athleticism in the last six months. He topped out at 92 mph with a good curveball and change up. He has a chance to be a big-time power pitcher.

Robert "Coco" Montes  SS - 2015 - Miami, FL
South Florida

Montes isn't flashy or standout toolsy in his overall game but he is an outstanding baseball player on both sides of the ball. His simple and strong skills will make him immediately successful at the next level, whether that be in college or professionally.

Brandon Hill  OF - 2015 - Lilburn, GA
Alabama/Chattahoochee Valley CC

Hill is another player who entered the World Showcase with a low national profile but upped that enormously in two days. He has a very quick right handed swing that produced surprising power and is a solid overall athlete.

Gabriel Garcia  C - 2015 - Coamo, PR
Florida International

Garcia is a top prospect third baseman but he has a higher ceiling as a catcher on defense. He swung the bat very well throughout the entire event, showing both barrel control and power potential, including a three-run game home run and numerous other base hits.

Tyrone Perry  1B - 2015 - Avon Park, FL
Florida State

Weight will probably always be an issue with Perry but there are no concerns about either his bat speed or his hitting ability. He has natural hitting tools and his immense strength results in some of the hardest hit balls we see during the year.

Bryant Harris  OF - 2015 - Hampton, GA
Tennessee

Harris stands out for his physical build, athleticism and projection but he also has a notably short and quick swing for his size. He makes solid hard contact on a regular basis and will keep hitting while his power develops.

John Sharpe  SS - 2015 - Knoxville, TN
Lipscomb/Cleveland State CC

Sharpe has a very projectable 6-1/170 build that has lots more strength than those numbers indicate. He has plenty of bat speed at the plate, runs a 7.0 sixty and a plus arm from both shortstop and the outfield.

Juan Javier Echevarria  RHP - 2015 - Kissimmee, FL
Alabama State

The 6-3/195 Echevarria just converted to pitching in the last few years but he's made tremendous progress and is still very projectable. He sat in the 89-91 mph range and showed some feel for his off-speed pitches.

Kenneth Bautista  OF - 2015 - Carolina, PR
Uncommitted

The 6-3/210 Bautista teased us with his talent at the Caribbean Showcase last month but really stepped forward here with his loose powerful swing and projectable athleticism. His home run off fellow Puerto Rican top prospect Edrick D Agosto will be talked about on the Island.

Kevin Lara  RHP - 2015 - Kissimmee, FL
Seminole State College

Lara has a power arm and topped out at 90 mph from a solid delivery. He also showed power to his curveball in the mid-70's and some feel for his change up.

Danny Casals  SS - 2015 - Miami, FL
Maine

Casals gets attention as a Miami resident who is heading to the far north to attend college at Maine. He also will get attention as a multi-talented middle infielder with lots of quick twitch athleticism that stood out on both sides of the ball.

Andrew Perez  LHP - 2015 - Orlando, FL
South Florida

Perez's secondary pitches are still developing but young and projectable left handers who throw consistently at 88-90 and show some ability to spot the ball on both corners are valued prospects.

Christian Cuba  RHP - 2015 - Miami, FL
Tusculum

The last time we saw Cuba on the mound was at the WWBA World Championships in late October and he was topping out at 85 mph. He topped out at 90 mph here with a mid-70's breaking ball, so he's taken a big step forward.

Parker Kelly  C - 2015 - Portland, OR
Oregon

Kelly continues to develop as a two-way prospect. He's really got strong and that shows in his right handed bat speed and ability to lift and back spin the ball. He was also up to 86 mph on the mound with lots of movement and feel for the strike zone.

Tekwaan Whyte  SS - 2015 - Stone Mountain, GA
Chipola College

Normally a two-way prospect such as Whyte, who is a switch-hitting middle infielder, would be more highly regarded position prospect. But Whyte's ability to throw a quality curveball and slider, along with a low 90's fastball, makes him a potentially more interesting pitching prospect.

Cameron Montgomery  OF - 2015 - Windermere, FL
South Florida

Montgomery impresses every time we see him with his strength and feel for hitting. Scouts should also note that he's a 6.8 runner with 90 mph outfield arm strength.

Hunter Stovall  C - 2015 - Pelham, AL
Mississippi State

Stovall's versatility on defense, quick twitch athleticism and his fast running motor all stand out. He'll be a player that managers love to have on their teams.

Bakari Gayle  OF - 2015 - Stone Mountain, GA
Augusta University

Gayle continues to show off his raw physical tools, including a combination of 6.6 speed and power potential. The tool he's short on now is the hit tool and that can come with adjustments and repetitions.

Yasin Chentouf  OF - 2015 - Ocoee, FL
Pittsburgh

Chentouf has gained some strength since last summer and is looking very physical. He has a solid package of tools, including 6.8 speed, a big outfield arm and plenty of right handed bat speed.

Luke Eigsti  OF - 2015 - Scottsdale, AZ
University of Alabama at Birmingham

Eigsti has always gained attention for his outstanding outfield arm but it looks like he's taken some big steps with his bat since we saw him last. He made consistent solid contact in BP and the games and really drove the ball well.

Roman Gonzalez  3B - 2015 - Hialeah, FL
Miami

Gonzalez' combination of strength, speed and top of the charts arm strength stands out. He's a few swing adjustments away from being a real high profile prospect.

Benjamin Koff  RHP - 2015 - Newberry, FL
South Florida/Northwest Florida State College

Koff was up to 88 mph on the mound as a primary pitcher but he might be a better position prospect based on this evaluation. He has big bat speed, runs a 6.8 sixty and the arm strength carries over to the outfield.

Jacob Silverstein  OF - 2015 - Seminole, FL
Chipola College

Silverstein has a nice combination of athletic tools, including 6.6 speed in the sixty and a strong throwing arm that played well in the games from centerfield. His left handed swing was short and crisp with good bat speed.

Erik Rodriguez  OF - 2015 - Carolina, PR
Miami-Dade College

Rodriguez ran a 6.54 sixty and graded out very high defensively in centerfield. He will need to get stronger to compete with the bat but he's a prototypical speedy leadoff/centerfield type who can impact the game in many ways.

Ryan Caldwell  OF - 2015 - Brentwood, TN
Walters State CC

Caldwell stood out for his athleticism and extremely projectable 6-3/185 frame. He's a switch-hitter who showed a very quick swing in the games and will just keep getting better as he gets stronger.

Canice Ejoh  OF - 2015 - Brampton, ON CAN
Cochise College

Ejoh is a young Canadian with big right handed strength in his swing. He has a low effort swing but a big impact with the barrel. He also ran the bases aggressively and showed overall athleticism.

Kevin Edgardo Rivera Rodríguez  1B - 2015 - Cayey, PR
Miami-Dade College

Rivera is only averaged sized for a primary first baseman but he continues to stand out for his crisp, short and powerful right handed swing. He's going to hit at higher levels if he stays on the same track and gets stronger.

James Nelson  SS - 2015 - Rex, GA
Cisco Junior College

There are so many quality athletes coming out of Georgia these days you can lose track of all of them. Nelson is a 6-2/190 infielder who runs a 6.7 sixty, has a very strong throwing arm and has lots of right handed bat speed.

Jordan Holloman Scott  SS - 2015 - Conyers, GA
West Virginia

Scott is a high level athlete who is a switch-hitter who can play multiple positions on the field. His right handed swing is especially strong and the ball jumps off his bat.

Morgan Lomax  MIF - 2015 - Los Angeles, CA
Mississippi Valley State

Lomax is a quick twitch athlete who is a 6.6 runner and can play multiple positions at a high level. He's a switch hitter whose game swing and approach dwarfed his BP performance and gives hope to his being a next level hitter.

Angel Lopez  C - 2015 - Bethlehem, PA
Uncommitted

Lopez is a quick twitch athlete and that especially comes into play behind the plate on defense. He's quick in his shifting and has a compact, clean release and a strong arm. He also flashed some gap power at the plate.

Matt Morales  SS - 2015 - Wellington, FL
Stetson

Morales is a top level defensive shortstop with all the actions and athleticism to play that position for many years to come.

2016 Top Prospects

Gary Mattis Jr  SS - 2016 - Davie, FL
Florida Atlantic

Mattis made an athletic middle infield play that had to be seen to be believed; Andrelton Simmons would have been proud of it. ESPN would have worn out the video. He was really good without that play, but it was one of the highlights of the event.

Andrew Belcik  RHP - 2016 - Oldsmar, FL
Notre Dame

Belcik is a big physical right handed pitcher who has some two-way potential with the bat at the college level due to his power. He's powerful on the mound, with a fastball that has touched 90 mph and a power breaking ball to go with it.

Cooper Bradford  RHP - 2016 - Oviedo, FL
North Florida

Bradford showed lots of young raw arm strength, topping out at 90 mph with occasional hard running life. He also throws a hard mid-70's curveball that has big depth at times.

Nicholas Baldor  IF - 2016 - Tampa, FL
Florida State

Baldor has a very nice left handed swing and consistently swung the bat well all weekend. He looks like a run producing/middle of the order hitter moving forward.

Free Agents Top Prospects

Bryan Ciriaco  3B - Free Agents - Santo Domingo, DR DOM

Ciriaco is a young Dominican native who is eligible to sign immediately and showed to tools to warrant offers from pro teams. He's a strong and projectable right handed hitter who has bat speed and the ability to drive the ball hard. His defensive tools at third base were solid, too.
