2017 Top Prospects

Max Clark  RHP - 2017 - Winter Park, FL
Creighton

Clark has a very impressive collection of tools. The 6-foot-1, 190 pound righty is a solid athlete and he repeats his mechanics well. He topped out at 87 mph, working steadily in the mid-80s and showing good, late life on his heater. He also shows bat speed in the batter's box and has a solid feel for the barrel. Additionally, he ran an 6.9 60-yard dash.

Luke Drummond  RHP - 2017 - Temple Terrace, FL
Birmingham-Southern College

Drummond had the top pitcher velocity of the Underclass event, running his fastball up to 88 mph. His fastball worked comfortably in the 83-86 mph range for much of his outing, and the pitch had good late life. He also showed feel for a tight curveball with 11/5 shape.

Shamir M Morales Rodriguez  C - 2017 - San Lorenzo, PR
Alabama State/Broward CC

Morales had an extremely consistent performance at the plate this weekend. He had a very solid round of batting practice, hitting hard line drives up the middle, and carried that momentum into game action where he found the barrel early and often. He also has impressive defensive tools with a strong arm and quick feet which helped him post a 1.83 pop time.

Devon Connors  C - 2017 - Lutz, FL

Connors is very physical and strong for his age. Listed at 6-foot-3, 218 pounds, Connors starts with a low hands set and is able to whip the bat through the zone with authority. With his size and strength, Connors projects for impressive raw power, and he also showed arm strength and quickness defensively, turning in a 1.94 pop time in defensive drills.

Kyle Khachadourian  LHP - 2017 - Jupiter, FL
Charleston Southern

A strongly-built lefthanded pitcher, Khachadourian has heavy life on his mid-80s fastball and shows good feel for a sweeping breaking ball. He also has good hitting tools, with an aggressive approach and strength and lift off of the barrel.

Ihosvany Castaneda  OF - 2017 - Hialeah, FL
Broward CC

Castaneda also showcased solid timing, rhythm, and bat speed at the plate. The outfielder hit the ball hard throughout the weekend, and also ran a solid 7.06 60-yard dash.

Xavier Posada  C - 2017 - Hialeah, FL

Posada is a leader behind the plate, where he shows good receiving skills, quick feet, and a strong arm. He also has skills in the batter's box where he shows good bat speed and the ability to backspin the baseball.

Jose Varela  RHP - 2017 - Miami, FL

Varela posted the top infield velocity of the Underclass Showcase, firing across the diamond at 86 mph. The right handed hitting shortstop has a long, lean and projectable build and he showcased solid bat speed and the ability to get extended and pull the ball with authority.

Jack Schmidt  LHP - 2017 - Cooper City, FL

Schmidt is a big, physical young man. Listed at 6-foot-6, 225 pounds, Schmidt has solid strength on both sides of the ball, with some raw power showing up in game action. He had the second best infield velocity at the event, firing from 1B at 84 mph. He also carried that over to the mound, where he hit 85 mph and showed feel for both a breaking ball and changeup.

Michael Giordano  1B - 2017 - Pembroke Pines, FL
Florida Memorial University

Giordano has good strength in his large, physical 6-foot-2, 200 pound frame. The righthanded hitter has good bat speed and he displayed an astute ability to get the barrel through the zone, to the ball, and create backspin and carry.

Brian Perez  3B - 2017 - Miami, FL

Perez is a physical kid and his strength shows up at the plate. He has a confident, mature approach and likes to get his hands extended and pull the ball, although he shows flashes of using the entire field as well. He also moves pretty well and has soft hands at 3B.

Jake Kessinger  3B - 2017 - Boca Raton, FL
Emory

Kessinger, a strongly built 5-foot-11, 185 pound infielder has good bat speed. He shows quiet hands and an ability to drive the ball with authority, especially to his pullside.

Luis Aviles  C - 2017 - Palmetto Bay, FL

Aviles has a quick release and compact arm-action, which allowed him to post a 1.93 pop time, second best in the Underclass Showcase. Aviles also flashes good feel for using the barrel at the plate, where he is a switch hitter.

Nick Tiano  SS - 2017 - Jupiter, FL
Hawaii Pacific

Tiano maintains good balance and rhythm throughout his swing. He starts from a wide base and uses his lower half pretty well, flashing solid bat speed and ability to use the entire field.

Jan Carlos Rodriguez  SS - 2017 - Hialeah, FL

Rodriguez showed very well in the game portion of the event, tacking up multiple hit efforts in both contests. The compactly built infielder has a middle of the field approach a nice, compact and repeatable swing geared for line drive contact.

Jake Barrett  RHP - 2017 - Merritt Island, FL

Barrett was solid on the mound this weekend, showcasing a fastball up to 84 mph from his 3/4's arm slot. Barrett also displayed good feel for his low-70s curveball with 10/4 shape.

Leary has an aggressive approach at the plate and shows good bat speed. He also posted an Underclass best 6.86 60-yard dash.

Jack Sinclair  RHP - 2017 - Coral Springs, FL
University of Central Florida

Sinclair showed good command of three pitches. The righty throws from a deceptive 3/4's arm slot and has solid feel for his 80-83 mph fastball, a mid-60's curveball, and a low-70's changeup.

Justin Alintoff  RHP - 2017 - Palm Beach Gardens, FL
Rollins College/Indian River State College

Alintoff has a nice pitcher's build on his 6-foot-2, 190 pound frame and the righty showed a fastball up to 84 mph. He also displayed solid feel for a mid-60's curveball with late bite.

Carlos Maldonado  OF - 2017 - Miramar, FL
Belmont Abbey

Maldonado posted the best outfield velocity of the Underclass Showcase, firing in as high as 86 mph in defensive drills. He also showcased some of his good athleticism and footspeed, running the 60-yard dash in 7.01 seconds.


2018 Top Prospects

Christopher Ruckdeschel  OF - 2018 - Davie, FL
Florida State

Ruckdeschel has very good feel for the barrel for a player his age. The athletic shortstop has an easy rhythm and good weight shift, and his timing and overall hitting approach is impressive. Ruckdeschel also ran a solid 6.92 60-yard dash and showed good actions and arm strength in defensive drills.

Nicholas Perez-Battistini  SS - 2018 - Miami, FL

Perez-Battistini has solid defensive and hitting tools. Perez-Battistini registered the second best outfield velocity of the event, and has impressive strength in his 5-foot-11, 180 pound frame. Perez-Battistini has an advanced feel for using the barrel and consistently stung the ball to his pullside in batting practice.

Devin Roche  C - 2018 - Fort Lauderdale, FL
Fairleigh Dickinson

Roche is a strong, sturdy 6-foot-2, 190 pounds and his strength shows up in the batter's box. The righthanded hitter has a pull-oriented approach but he's able to repeat his swing pretty well and with his strength and bat speed he's able to impact the baseball consistently.

Heldon Ramos  SS - 2018 - Orlando, FL

Ramos turned in a 6.97 60-yard dash, the fourth-best overall at the Underclass Event, and second-best in terms of 2018 graduates. The athletic outfielder has an aggressive weight shift and doesn't get cheated at the plate. With his impressive hand quickness and bat speed, he projects for some power as he refines his timing and gets stronger.
