2017 Top Prospects

Cole Turney  OF - 2017 - Richmond, TX
University of Houston/San Jacinto CC

Turney is one of the best hitters in the 2017 class. He has big left handed power at the plate and also shows the ability to make swing adjustments and square up tough pitches. He was also up to 87 mph from the mound.

Kyle Hurt  RHP - 2017 - Rancho Santa Fe, CA
Southern California

Hurt was outstanding in his two inning appearance, working at 89-92 mph and showing lots of confidence and command of his 76 mph curveball and 81 mph change up. He's a mature pitcher now and will keep getting better.

Kevin Abel  RHP - 2017 - San Diego, CA
Oregon State

Abel's present velocity doesn't stand out at 84-86/T87 but he is very young physically and projects big. What makes him one of the best pitching prospects in the class is his outstanding change up, potential plus curveball and advanced feel for pitching.

Nick Allen  SS - 2017 - San Diego, CA
Southern California

Allen is always fun to watch play, as he understands the game like a big league veteran and plays with energy. A part of his game that stood out this event was his base running instincts and aggressiveness.

Royce Lewis  SS - 2017 - Aliso Viejo, CA
UC Irvine

Lewis is a very high level athlete with running speed and the strength to drive the ball to all fields. He's a shortstop now but his future position is likely either second base, where is actions and arm stroke works very well, or centerfield.

Francis Villaman  SS - 2017 - Orlando, FL
St. Johns River CC

Time will tell if the strong and powerful 6-1/194 Floridian can stay in the middle of field as he gets mature physically but his bat will play at any position on the field and he is highly athletic.

Jacob Pearson  OF - 2017 - West Monroe, LA
Louisiana State

Pearson is a quick twitch athlete who runs very well and has a fast and strong left handed swing that can drive the ball to the gaps. He plays with a fast motor and is fun to watch play as well.

Hugh Fisher  LHP - 2017 - Eads, TN
Vanderbilt

Fisher is a very projectable 6-5/180 southpaw who is already working in the 86-88 mph range while showing feel for both his curveball and change up and throwing strikes with all three pitches. He's a high ceiling talent.

Ryan Vilade  SS - 2017 - Stillwater, OK
Oklahoma State

Vilade took a monster of a batting practice, showing huge power and bat speed from the right side. He also looked more athletic and comfortable at shortstop than the last time we saw him, although a 6-2/188 he might outgrow the middle of the field.

Jayson Gonzalez  3B - 2017 - Covina, CA
Vanderbilt

Gonzalez' present strength and bat speed separates him from most of his peers and the ball just comes off his bat differently than most. His right handed swing mechanics are very sound as well.

Ronald Washington  OF - 2017 - Houston, TX
Pittsburgh

Washington has some of the best power in the 2017 class and his hitting approach seems more and more balanced as the summer goes on. He played well in the corner outfield spots on defense.

Ben Casparius  SS - 2017 - Westport, CT
North Carolina

The Connecticut native is a very nice all around athlete who shows top prospect tools both as an infielder with lots of projection and as a pitcher with a fastball that touches 90 mph.

Bryson Hutchinson  1B - 2017 - Port Orange, FL
Mississippi State

Hutchinson is a 6-6/230 primary first baseman but his future for scouts is clearly on the mound. He threw 88-91 mph bowling balls with serious heavy sink and complimented his fastball with a sharp slider.

Anthony Simonelli  RHP - 2017 - Winchester, VA
Virginia Tech

The 6-1/165 Simonelli has a fast and loose arm that produced an 86-89 mph fastball. His best secondary pitch was a 77-81 mph change up that had big diving action at times and he also threw a mid-70's curveball.

Conner Uselton  OF - 2017 - Oklahoma City, OK
Oklahoma State

Uselton looks like he comes from baseball central casting with his athletic 6-3/195 build and high level athleticism. He has leverage in his right handed swing and big future power potential.

Sean Ross  OF - 2017 - El Cajon, CA
Indiana State/Pensacola State

Ross's arm strength from the outfield is top of the grading scale and his work on the mound was very interesting, although he is still a position first prospect because of his overall athleticism.

Jacob Blas  SS - 2017 - Carlsbad, CA
Arizona

Blas stood out both offensively with a short and quick right handed swing and defensively, where he has quickness and actions in the middle of the field and lots of arm strength.

Joey Lancellotti  RHP - 2017 - Bensalem, PA
North Carolina

Lancellotti is a polished two-way prospect whose power curveball dominates all but the best hitters. He topped out at 90 mph on the mound and also shows lots of right handed bat speed.

Mervyl "MJ" Melendez  C - 2017 - Cutler Bay, FL
Florida International

Melendez has all the physical tools to a top prospect catcher, especially on defense, where his athleticism stands out.

Conner Nurse  RHP - 2017 - Davenport, FL
Seminole State College of Florida

The 6-5/190 Nurse has a high ceiling arm that produced a steady upper 80's fastball with big downhill angle. He'll need to improve his breaking ball but had natural cutting action on his fastball that bodes well for a future power slider.

Shane Baz  RHP - 2017 - Cypress, TX
TCU

Baz is a very projectable athlete with two-way potential. It wouldn't surprise anyone if he developed into a mid-90's thrower on the mound, although he has plenty of work to do with his command and secondary pitches.

Danny Zimmerman  1B - 2017 - Redondo Beach, CA
Michigan

Zimmerman is a very large young man at 6-5/245 but he has nice athleticism on the mound and a low effort delivery and release. He threw in the upper 80's with command and had a sharp breaking ball.

Brady McConnell  SS - 2017 - Merritt Island, FL
Florida

McConnell has plenty of polish to his overall game and especially stands out with his bat and approach at the plate. He'll be an above average offensive middle infielder.

Raymond Gil  3B - 2017 - Miami, FL
Miami

Gil is a strong and polished right handed hitter who squared the ball up with strength very consistently for two days. He projects as a solid defender at third base.

Calvin Mitchell  OF - 2017 - San Diego, CA
San Diego

Mitchell has high level offensive potential. The ball sounds different coming off the barrel from his strong left handed swing.

Andres Santana  OF - 2017 - Miami, FL
Florida International

Santana is a very interesting offensive prospect, with quick hands that produce big bat speed and an eye for squaring up the ball to all fields.

Brandon McCabe  RHP - 2017 - Boynton Beach, FL
Palm Beach State

McCabe's high effort delivery profiles him as a future reliever but the raw stuff is impressive, with a 89-91 mph fastball and a sharp breaking 12/6 downer curveball that hitters give up on.

RJ Teijeiro  C - 2017 - Foster City, CA
UCLA

Teijeiro impressed with his smooth and very projectable left handed swing and his present ability to drive the ball hard with minimal effort.

Darren Baker  2B - 2017 - Granite Bay, CA
California

Dusty Baker's son has a nice and quick left handed swing that produced hard line drive contact and was smooth defensively at second base.

Altoon Coleman  RHP - 2017 - Sanford, FL
Wallace CC-Dothan

We've seen Coleman better with his fastball in the past, although he did touch 90 mph here, but were impressed this outing by his change up, which has really improved and that he threw with confidence.

Tristan Hanoian  SS - 2017 - Costa Mesa, CA
TCU

Hanoian lacks the physicality of a top prospect but, like fellow middle infielder Nick Allen, really knows how to play the game and perform while bring lots of energy to the field.

Cardinal Fernandezees  RHP - 2017 - Gardena, CA
Loyola Marymount

Fernandezees is very raw on the mound but there is potentially a special arm there when he gets more instruction and innings. He topped out at 90 mph and worked in the upper 80's easily.

2018 Top Prospects

Chase Sanguinetti  OF - 2018 - Tampa, FL
Florida State

One has to appreciate Sanguinetti's approach at the plate, where is very aggressive with big left handed bat speed and is looking to do harm to the baseball every time he swings.

Jacob Riordan  RHP - 2018 - Marietta, GA
Arkansas-Pine Bluff/Western Oklahoma State College

Riordan's arm action is long and loose and very projectable. He worked at 83-85 mph with a very nice change up and should continue to improve for years to come.

Free Agents Top Prospects

Oscar Arzaga  RHP - Free Agents - Tijuana, BN MEX

Arzaga is a Mexican citizen who is eligible to sign now as an international free agent but who plans on attending Eastlake High School if he doesn't sign before school starts. He pitched at 90-93 with an impressive 80 mph slider that had depth and bite.
