18u WWBA Championship Scout Notes: Day 1 & 2

Georgia Tech Commit, Keegan Allen (2021 Rogers, Ark.), is a name to remember as he shows legit two-way potential. Allen just made the trip back from the National Showcase and inserted himself immediately. The broad shouldered righthanded pitcher got the start for his 17u East Cobb Astros team and dominated. The righty utilizes smooth, easy mechanics as he fills up the zone working downhill. The arm action is stress free, proving he has plenty more velocity in the tank and is someone who could throw very hard one day. He ran his fastball up to 93 mph and sat in the 89-91 mph range during his outing. The fastball gets in on hitters in a hurry and he goes right after them, making hitters become the aggressor. He also mixed in a slider that had more sweep than tilt that was right around 80 mph. His curveball showed more promise as he generated tight spin and depth to it with 11-5 break that was a plus pitch when down in the zone. He also mixed in a changeup that he commanded well getting weak contact with it. He ended the day with six punchouts & two hits given up in 3 innings of work. Allen is ranked 80th, respectively, in his prep class and will be someone to monitor come the draft next year.
