On the other end of the field opposing Brackin was uncommitted Joan Roman (2022, Marlboro, N.J.) who absolutely pitched the opposition to death, mixing in a ton of off- speed and providing different looks to generate a ton of weak contact. Roman allowed just one hit and punched out five hitters during the performance The mechanics are startlingly simple on the bump, with a slight turn step, an ordinary leg lift, and a compact arm action which allows Roman to repeat his delivery and tunnel his offerings. The fastball worked up to 85 mph and has been higher in the past, but in this one the primary focus of the fastball was to work ahead and set up his other pitches to generate outs. The changeup was a superb secondary offering with late fading and sinking action while the curveball is softer but changed the pace of the at-bat. Hitters were walking on eggshells facing Roman and with the amount of changeups and curveballs thrown, almost no one was able to square him up.
