P27 Claims Academies Title

P27 Academy and A3 Academy squared off in a classic matchup in the championship game after both of them put together impressive runs through the weekend. Let’s break down how P27 took the crown on Sunday afternoon.

The game started quickly as Lucas Alberti took the third pitch of the game and deposited it over the scoreboard in left-center to get the early lead for P27 Academy – Premier. They would add onto the lead in the top of the second inning as Treion McFarland walked to lead off the inning then stole second and third base, later coming home on a passed ball to make the early lead 2-0.



A3 Academy – Premier would answer in the bottom of the second as Maurice Days Jr. hit a double on the first pitch he saw in the game and would come around to score on a wild pitch a few batters later, making the score 2-1 in the bottom of the 2nd inning.

Things went quiet on the offensive side of things as both Zev Salsberg (A3 Academy) and Matthew Brown (P27 Academy) settled into the outings and rolled through the third and the fourth innings.

Things would heat back up in the bottom of the 5th as Jayden Garcia came up with a huge swing, hitting a ground rule double to left-center field. After Balint Piros got hit by a pitch the next at-bat, Jackson Roper, the tournament MVP, came up and hit a huge three-run home run to grab the lead for A3 Academy.

Down a run in the top of the 6th inning, the P27 Blacksmiths had to come up with some big swings and that they did as they would snatch the lead back in the top of the 6th. After two quick outs to start the inning, Seven Alemais came up clutch with a double to keep the inning going and Treion McFarland came up with the swing of the tournament as he blasted a no-doubt homer to left field to tie things back up with two innings remaining.

South Carolina commit Daniel Parker got the ball out of the bullpen in the bottom of the 6th inning and put together a quick one-two-three inning to keep things tied up heading into the final frame.

Rafael Soto got the top of the 7th going with a line drive single into right and would steal second base just one pitch later. He would come around to score on an infield hit by Lucas Alberti just a few pitches after swiping second to put P27 up one late. After a walk, Ethan Wagner would come across on another infield hit to make the score 6-4 going into the final frame.

A3 would try to mount a comeback in the bottom of the 7th but would come up short as Daniel Parker slammed the door to make the P27 Blacksmiths High School Showdown – Academies Champs!
