Batting Practice Highlights Part Four
5/31/2014
TEAL - 13 Ronald Washington (2017, Houston, TX): Washington has to be one of the better 2017's in the country. He has astounding power for a young hitter his age and hit a game home run today in addition to bombing a number of balls into the trees in BP. His swing isn't conventional but the results are eye opening. Remember his name, you'll be hearing it plenty over the next three years.
MIF Clayton Kopecky (2015, Cypress, TX): Kopecky has a nice 6-1/175 build that projects and a well balanced swing that results in consistent loud line drive contact.
C Tyler Hockenbury (2015, Santa Fe, TX): Hockenbury has more strength than his 6-0/165 build indicates and a nice swing with present bat speed and hard line drive contact.
LHP James Ferguson (2016, Fort Worth, TX): Ferguson was another primary pitcher who graded out very well has a hitter, with a good lower half in his swing and lots of hard contact.
TEXAS ORANGE - 14
RHP Will Bradshaw (2015, Longview, TX): Add the 6-4/205 Bradshaw to that list of pitcher's who can hit, although his potential ride to Texas A&M points to the fact that he is a talented pitcher, too.
C Kelvin Dews (2015, Pflugerville, TX): Dews is a very strong 6-0/210 right handed hitter with a long and loose swing that that has huge power if he can improve his shift and move into contact.
VEGAS GOLD - 15
SS Bailey Mullins (2016, Humble, TX): Mullins has a very projectable 6-1/175 build and quick, direct path to the ball from the right side. He has present bat speed with lots more to come as he gets stronger.
SS Will Heath (2017, Monroe, LA): Monroe showed surprising power and bat speed for a 2017. He's a bit rotational in his swing approach but generates very good bat speed and keeps his bat on plane with the ball for a long time.
C Brandon Upton (2015, League City, TX): Nope, not a relative of the MLB Uptons but nonetheless talented, with lots of loft in his swing and the ability to make consistent contact.
WHITE - 16
1B Tyler Bielamowicz (2016, Cypress, TX): Bielamowicz is a switch hitter with a young, projectable build and quick hands, especially from the right side of the plate.
OF Daniel Jones (2015, Coppell, TX): Jones made very hard and loud line drive contact for most of the round before showing his power in his last few swings. He projects very well.
Batting Practice Highlights Part Three
5/31/2014
ORANGE - 9
OF Donte Peters (2015, Foxworth, MS): Peters gets to his front side very aggressively and will have to learn to stay back some to generate more leverage at contact. But he has good bat speed now and makes hard contact.
SS Cristian Gutierrez (2016, Spring, TX): Gutierrez is young and projectable with a loose swing with some ability to drive the ball to both gaps and he squared the ball up consistently. More strength and he'll be very solid.
PURPLE - 10
IF Jacob Rodriguez and OF Joel Rodriguez (2015, Spring, TX): The Rodriguez' are not twins, as they were born 10 months apart, but they share the same short, strong builds an very nice swings with lots of bat speed for 5-6 athletes, Both of them squared up the ball hard consistently and with gap power.
SS Tristan Metten (2015, Lewisville, TX): Metten is a Texas A&M commit with good present strength for a middle infielder and made strong line drive contact to right centerfield.
RED - 11
OF Jacob Rizer (2015, Cypress, TX): Rizer, a Louisiana-Lafayette commit, took one of the more impressive BP's of the day with very good bat speed from the left side and a strong fundamental swing with a nice hand path towards the ball that leaves the barrel on plane for a long time. He showed both power and a sound Hit tool.
OF Blane Cannon (2016, Houston, TX): Cannon is only 5-7/150 but he has an aggressive swing approach with lots of whippy bat speed and the ball comes off his barrel surprisingly hard. He looks even younger in the face and looks like he's ready for a growth spurt.
ROYAL - 12
LHP Grant Cox (2015, Lafayette, LA): Cox is a primary pitcher but we'll have to wait on the pitching notes to determine if he grades out higher than he did as a hitter, which was pretty high. He has a nice 6-2/175 build and a loose, easy swing with bat speed.
C Marshall Skinner (2016, Cypress, TX): Skinner was a late add-on to the event and we're glad he decided to come. He popped a 1.92 in drills and showed his big power in batting practice with one of the longer home runs of the day.
SS Andrew Martinez (2015, Cypress, TX): Martinez is one of the few young switch-hitters who have the same hitting mechanics and same bat speed from both sides of the plate. And it's a very sound approach as well.
OF Daniel Priwin (2015, Sugar Land, TX): Priwin has lots of strength in his 6-0/190 build and made very hard pull contact.
Batting Practice Highlights Part Two
5/31/2014

OF Liam McEntee (2016, Albuquerque, NM): McEntee had a pretty long approach to the ball but he also had strength and bat speed that resulted in lots of pull lift and power.
OF Grant Golson (2015, Cypress, TX): We'd like to see Golson with more shift and momentum into contact but he has quick hands that help to make up for it and had a very solid round of line drives up the gaps.
KELLY GREEN - 6
2B Dax McCleary (2016, Sweeny, TX): There were a number of young players here from Sweeny High School and they are being well coached, as they have nice aggressive swing approaches that are designed to drive the ball hard. McCleary showed lots of left handed power and some lift for a young 5-11/172 hitter.
SS Nate Fisbeck (2015, The Woodlands, TX): Fisbeck has a nice projectable 6-1/168 build and a loose extended swing with some present bat speed. His best days are in front of him as he gets stronger.
C Blaze Beason (2015, Plano, TX): Beason wasn't consistent in his timing and swing length but showed fast hands and very good strength when things came together.
OF Jake Cochran (2015, Lake Charles, LA): Cochran is a 6-0 180 left handed hitter who has deceptive strength and a quick left handed swing. He liked the ball on the inside half and pulled it hard.
3B Max Kinney (2015, San Antonio, TX): Kinney has quick hands and good present bat speed that results in consistent hard pull contact.
MAROON - 7
C Shawn Kelly (2016, Sweeny, TX): Another Sweeny player who gets very good lower half explosion in his swing that gives him present bat speed despite his 6-1/150 build. He really projects well.
1B Sterling Motley (2015, Houston, TX): Motley is a big young man at 6-4/230 with enormous raw strength and long and loose swing. His timing and swing path is inconsistent but when he squares a ball up it really jumps. A bit of a project but a high ceiling project.
NAVY - 8
C Sam Wheatley (2015, Kingwood, TX): Strong hitting fundamentals with loose quick hands and a crisp, direct path to the ball, Wheatley hit the ball hard to all fields and looks like a high average hitter with some extra base pop.

3B Ke'Bryan Hayes (2015, Tomball, TX): We're still waiting for Ke'Bryan to unlease his power but he's a very disciplined hitter who just overpowers the ball with his strength and line drive stroke.
