Texas Orange vs. Navy Game Highlights

8/9/2015

Jonathan Young (2016 SS, Batavia, IL) Fast loose arm with lots of deception in delivery. Fastball 82-85 mph topped at 86 mph. Sharp slider 74-77 mph with bat missing potential. Excellent change up with tumbling action. Mixed and matched three pitches with command of all three.

Alex Markley (2017 3B, Mainville, OH) Extra large frame with excellent present strength. Heavy fastball at 76-80 mph. Generates good angle from extended ¾ slot. Slider shows good sweeping tilt. Threw both pitches for strikes.

Clay Velazquez (2016 OF, Rock Falls, IL) Clay has a naturally lofted swing that results in good gap to gap power potential. 2 RBI double to straight away center field in first at bat.

Zach Nogalski (2017 OF, Milwaukee, WI) Zach shows very good bat speed with a compact in game swing. Drove a hard line drive down right field line.

Nick Carreathers (2016 MIF, West Bloomfield, MI) Nick showed a middle of the field plate approach and was able to stay on off speed for a line drive single to center field.

Casey Barr (2017 RHP, Chicago, IL) Large frame with lots of projection. Heavy fastball at 75-79 mph. Curveball 11-5 shape with good depth and bite. Changeup had good deception and arm speed with fading action. Did a great job getting weak contact.

Harrison Hayes (2017 3B, Western Springs, IL) Harrison has good bat speed with some leverage. Looks to drive the ball to left center field, but showed he can become more compact and line ball up the middle and the other way.

Brett Wicklund (2017 RHP, Chicago, IL) Generates good plane to plate from high ¾ slot. Sinking fastball 81-84 mph. Sharp 12-6 curveball with good depth. Pounded the zone with both pitches.

Will Drake (2016 1B, Naperville, IL) Will has leverage in his swing and is strong at contact. Will has power potential and is compact to the ball. Singled to center field with two strikes on a mid 80’s fastball.

Vegas Gold vs. Green Game Highlights

8/9/2015

Kyle Alvarado (2016 SS, Bartlett, IL) Kyle had a balanced approach, while showing maturity at the plate in Sunday’s games. Was able to use his compact, line drive swing path to single down the right field line in his first at bat. Also showed the ability to generate some bat speed later in the game with a hard hit to deep left field. Kyle’s fastball was 76-80 mph and gets downhill well for a high ¾ arm slot. Has velocity projection with arm speed while showing command of his fastball. Kyle recorded a strikeout over his 2 innings of work and has potential swing and miss stuff.

Shakur Jackson (2017 SS, Rock Island, IL)
Shakur showed good plate coverage and discipline at the plate on Sunday. Was able to keep his barrel in the zone on a pitch outer half for a single up the middle. Shakur is also very instinctive and aggressive on the bases.

Thomas Larson (2017 OF, Joliet, IL) Thomas showed off some of his power potential and bat speed on Sunday with a homerun to left field on a fastball inner half.

Matt Rehfeldt (2016 2B, Peotone, IL) Matt showed a good ability to stay back on off speed pitches, spraying two hits on curveballs down in the zone. Matt was also very aggressive on the bases Sunday morning, stealing 2nd base and attempted to steal 3rd base on the very next pitch.

Ricky Vermaat (2016 1B, Arrowsmith, IL) Ricky has a large frame with solid bat speed and an intent to hit the ball hard. Ricky was an impressive 3 for 3 on the day with a double and triple to left center and a single to right.

Noah Ritchie (2016 3B, Wheaton, IL) Noah showed very good tools defensively at third base. Noah showed soft hands handling ground balls and the ability to throw from multiple arm slots moving to his left and right with accuracy. Noah is also very quiet in his approach at the plate providing a compact swing that often resulted in hard contact.

Jack Davis (2018 OF, Geneva, IL) Jack shows good barrel control and has the ability to hit the ball to all fields. Jack was 2 for 2 on Sunday with two singles.

Thaddeus Huber (2018 RHP, Kearney, NE) Thaddeus has a mature build and approach to the game for a 2018 graduate. Thaddeus is very quiet at the plate and likes to work the middle of the field. Had one of the hardest hit balls all weekend on a sharp single back up the middle.

Justin Machado (2016 3B, Glenview, IL) Justin’s fastball sat at 79-80mph with good sink and has natural heaviness. He used his fastball to attack and go after hitters. Justin threw one inning, giving up one run on one hit with a strikeout.

Ryan Moritz (2017 SS, Omaha, NE) Ryan looks to work the ball the other way and is disciplined at the plate. Ryan stuck to his approach hitting a double to left center field with two strikes in his first at bat Sunday.

Vegas Gold vs. Texas Orange Highlights

8/9/2015

Vegas Gold vs. Texas Orange

Vegas Gold Highlights

Thaddeus Huber (2018 RHP, Kearney, NE): Huber, only entering his sophomore year, was impressive on the mound on Saturday evening. Throwing 3 innings and racking up 3 strikeouts and shutting out the opposition, Huber was up to 85 MPH with a clean arm action. He also showed off very good feel for his off speed pitches, with a 12/6 CB that showed good depth and spin along with a deceptive changeup that is easy out of his hand with fading action at the plate.

Kale Litzelman (2017 OF, Hotchkiss, CO): Litzelman, a rising junior left-hander, worked 3 scoreless, hitless innings while racking up 4 strikeouts. He creates excellent angle to the plate from an extended 3/4 slot and works at the bottom of the zone with a running, sinking fastball that worked in the 75-78 range, topping at 79 MPH. He projects well moving forward both in terms of pitchability as well as velocity.

Jordan Litke (2017 RHP, Gurnee, IL): Litke worked the final 3 innings for the Vegas Gold team, allowing only 1 run and striking out a pair. He showed an impressive ability to generate good sink on his fastball, keeping the ball off of opposing hitters' barrels and eliciting a lot of weak contact, including a good number of ground balls, especially when he was able to command his fastball down in the zone.

Cameron Greer (2016 2B, West Bloomfield, MI): Greer recorded a pair of hits on Saturday evening, continuing to show advanced contact ability with an excellent approach. He's able to make solid contact to all parts of the field on pitches all over the strike zone, with an innate ability to stay on the ball and put the bat to ball with hand quickness and feel for the barrel.

Ryan Moritz (2017 SS, Omaha, NE): Moritz showed off some legitimate pop during batting practice on Saturday morning, and then showed it again in game action by smashing a leadoff triple in the 8th inning and eventually coming into score. He generates good bat speed with some natural loft, which results in solid present power and even more power projection moving forward as well.

Texas Orange Highlights

Branden Knorr (2016 RHP, Ann Arbor, MI): Knorr, a 6'4" right-hander, was very impressive in his start for the Texas Orange team. Going 3 shutout innings and allowing only 1 hit, Knorr racked up 7 strikeouts--all swinging--by doing an excellent job of commanding his mid-80's fastball (topping at 86 several times), and mixing in a hard breaking slider and feel for a fading changeup.

Justin Romic (2016 RHP, Winnetka, IL): Romic went the final 3 frames for the Texas Orange team, allowing only 2 hits to go along with 3 strikeouts, and showing a heavy fastball that touched as high as 82 MPH and worked comfortably in the 78-81 MPH range. He worked the fastball well to both sides and mixed in a deep 11/5-shaped curveball and a solid CH with some tumbling action.

James Raffauf (2017 RHP, Richmond, IL): Raffauf worked 3 innings for the Texas Orange team, allowing only a single hit and accumulating 3 strikeouts over those 3 frames. He generates good angle and plane to the plate from an extended high 3/4 slot, making the ball very hard to square up for opposing hitters. He held his velocity well and did a good job pounding the strike zone, generating a lot of weak contact to go along with his 3 strikeouts.

Chantz Stover (2016 RHP, South Bend, IN): Stover, like his other pitching teammates, worked 3 innings on Saturday evening. He allowed only 1 run on 1 hit over those three frames, collecting 2 strikeouts in the process. He has a short, quick arm action that gets downhill pretty well, working 78-81 with some life to the arm side on his fastball. He mixed in both a slider and a curveball, throwing the slider in the 69-70 range and even breaking a bat when he ran it inside on a left-handed hitter. The curve showed good 12/6 shape with quality spin as well.

Cobi Sabo (2016 3B, Homewood, IL): Sabo had a very good batting practice earlier on Saturday, and he carried that over into game action as well. He drilled a hard single during game action, continuing to show his advanced barrel control and ability to match the plane of the pitch with the plane of his swing. He has strength off the barrel and power projection as well.

Green vs. Navy Highlights

8/8/2015

Green Highlights

Liam Heath (2016 RHP, Naperville, IL): The 6'3" right-handed pitcher threw 3 innings for the Green team, striking out 4 along the way. With a fastball that touched 85 and worked in the low-mid 80's consistently, Heath was able to overpower opposing hitters at times as well as keep them off balance with a power-breaking curveball and a quality fading changeup.

Levi Palomo (2016 RHP, South Barrington, IL): Palomo, a 6'3" right-hander, worked 3 innings on Saturday afternoon, striking out 3 and doing a good job keeping hitters off balance. His fastball touched 81, ranging from 75-80, and showing some cutting action in the lower end of that velocity range. His CB showed good 11/5 shape with depth and tight spin. Palomo also had a very good day at the plate, racking up a pair of hits with a line drive swing and compact approach that results in hard contact all over the field.

Shakur Jackson (2017 SS, Rock Island, IL): Jackson had a pair of hits on Saturday afternoon as well to go along with an RBI, showing a quality contact approach to hitting, with a good knowledge of the strike zone and quick hands through the zone.

Kyle Alvarado (2016 SS, Bartlett, IL): Alvarado racked up two base hits during game action in addition to scoring a run for the Green squad, showing a naturally lofted swing that will result in good power as he continues to develop physically to go along with a great overall approach to hitting.

Martin Duffy (2016 RHP, Winnetka, IL): Duffy threw 3 shutout innings on Saturday, allowing only a single hit and recording a pair of strikeouts as well. He pounded the bottom of the zone with a firm fastball in the mid 70's, eliciting a lot of weak contact and several swings-and-misses as well.

Navy Highlights

Jacob Sandy (2017 RHP, New Berlin, WI): Sandy, a well-built right hander, worked 4 innings on Saturday and racked up an impressive 6 strikeouts in those 4 frames. His deceptive delivery, which comes from his slight crossfire action and overtop slot, helps to make his fastball get on hitters quickly, messing up their timing and helping him get strikeouts and weak contact alike. He also contributed with the bat, launching a long triple to go along with a stolen base and 2 runs scored.

Zach Nogalski (2017 OF, Milwaukee, WI): Nogalski was impressive both with the bat and on the mound on Saturday, collecting 3 base hits as well as swiping a base, showing off both a short, quick swing and good base running instincts. He also pitched well, throwing one inning in relief and recording a strikeout, showing a good fastball in the high 70's (topped at 80), to go along with good feel for his curveball.

William Matthews (2016 3B, Geneva, IL): Matthews was very impressive at the plate on Saturday, racking up 3 hits including a double to go along with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored as well. He shows a clean, smooth stroke with good extension through the baseball, giving him legitimate extra base power projection to go along with very good overall feel for hitting.

Drew Winegardner (2017 SS, Libertyville, IL): Winegardner shows off a loose, fluid swing with solid bat speed to go along with projectable overall hitting tools. He put those tools on display on Saturday, but recording a base hit to go along with an RBI Sac Fly, which shows his ability to hit situationally.

Batting Practice Highlights
