2004 Underclass National Showcase
Brant McKown -- McKown was one of the best game hitters at the World Underclass Showcase. Make that the best, because no one else went 6-7 against live pitching. This kid can swing the bat from both sides and has excellent hand/eye coordination and an extremely sound approach at the plate. He drilled three line drive doubles where he was right on the ball; in the future he’s going to loft some of these. In fact he has outstanding power potential. McKown is a physically mature junior with solid strength through his upper body and hands. He’s quick enough to play third base but his bat would really play at catcher. He also runs very well showing lots of athletic ability. His arm strength and pop times were average during the skills workout but it was a different story during games. McKown had a couple of 2.10 pop times in games and showed good arm strength at third base as well. He must have been nervous or something on that first day. McKown is a very good student who’s going to be at the top of many recruiting lists and catch the attention of pro scouts as well.
