College Top 25: Back in business

Virginia is back in familiar territory. The Cavaliers began the 2014 campaign atop the Perfect Game College Top 25 rankings. But while ACC counterpart Florida State had occupied the top spot in the rankings the past few weeks, the Cavaliers are back at No. 1 after a 3-1 week that included a home series win over Clemson.

Florida State dropped from the top spot to No. 4 after losing a tough road series to Georgia Tech, while the rest of the top five includes No. 2 Louisiana-Lafayette (4-1 last week), No. 3 Cal Poly (4-0 last week) and No. 5 Oregon State (2-1 last week). Meanwhile, the rest of the top 10 includes Texas, which moved from No. 8 to No. 6 following a road series sweep over Oklahoma, Louisville, which moved from No. 10 to No. 7 after sweeping Houston on the road, and LSU, South Carolina and of course, Washington, which entered the top 10 after improving to 12-3 in the Pac-12 with a series win over Stanford.

Alabama, Ole Miss, UC Santa Barbara and Miami made sizable jumps this week. 'Bama moved from No. 18 to No. 11 after a home series win over Auburn, Ole Miss went from No. 20 to No. 13 after a road series win over Mississippi State, UCSB went from No. 19 to No. 14 after taking two of three from Cal State Fullerton, and Miami moved from No. 25 to No. 17 after improving to an impressive 14-4 in the ACC.

Vanderbilt, Mississippi State and Kentucky dropped significantly in this week's rankings. The Commodores went from No. 9 to No. 19 after losing a home series to Texas A&M, Mississippi State dropped from No. 13 to No. 22 after losing a tough home series to Ole Miss and Kentucky dropped from No. 14 to No. 21 after losing a series to Missouri.

Tennessee, Cal State Fullerton and Arkansas fell out of the rankings after unsuccessful weekends, while Florida, Indiana and Pepperdine entered at No's 18, 24 and 25, respectively.

The Perfect Game College Top 25 is released every Monday during the regular season.

Flores posted a 2.78 ERA over 32.1 innings as a freshman before a limited sophomore campaign in which he logged just 12 innings. The stuff was on full display this summer, highlighted by a dominant five-inning, nine-strikeout playoff performance in which he touched 98 mph five different times. His fastball averaged nearly 96 mph throughout his time on the Cape, pairing the...

2027 Draft: Way Too Early 1:1 Predictions

Tyler Henninger
Article Image
2027 Top 100 Draft Board  Current Favorite: SS Dylan Seward, Norco HS (Calif.) In our first iteration of the 2027 Draft Board, Norco shortstop Dylan Seward ranks No. 1 overall. The switch-hitter is an ultra-twitchy player with a lot to like on both sides of the ball. He is a supreme athlete that should stick up the middle. Explosiveness is shown in all aspects of his game and gives the profiles big time upside.  In the event that Seward does not go 1:1, each member of our draft team selected a player that they think could wind up in that spot. We are still nearly a full year away from draft day, but here are our “Way Too Early” predictions for the 1st overall pick next July.  Henni’s Pick: C/UTL Gavin Kelly, West Virginia    Gavin Kelly (@WVUBaseball) sends this over the wall in CF for a solo πŸ’£ (100 EV/ 416 ft). Perfect Game Iowa City Scouting Showcase August 29-30 Ashley Mears It was a great weekend to kick off the Fall 2026 tournament campaign in Iowa City. The fields were packed with college coaches from across the Midwest, providing a great opportunity for players to showcase their talents. Both hitters and pitchers put on quite a show, and there were plenty of standout performances to take note of. We are excited to continue following these players and see what the rest of the fall has in store! Gillian Hansen (2028 New Brighton, MN) of the 18u MN Force Impact Standering was an absolute force to be reckoned with at the plate this weekend.
