Year Established: 1974
States Represented: Alaska
No. of Teams: 5
Regular Season Champion (best overall record): Mat-Su Miners (30-14)
Postseason Champion: Mat-Su Miners
No. 1 Prospect, 2016: Cody Deason, rhp, Mat-Su Miners (Arizona)
First 2016 Player Selected, 2017 Draft: Wyatt Mills, rhp, Mat-Su Miners (Gonzaga; Mariners/3rd round)
Player of the Year: Quin Cotton, of, Mat-Su Miners (Grand Canyon)
The Mat-Su Miners won their second consecutive ABL championship and this continues a dominant five-year run for the team out of Palmer. Skipper Ben Taylor has guided the Miners to the ABL’s “Top of the World” Series in five consecutive seasons.
This year’s ABL prospect list offers a ‘high upside athletes from rising programs’ theme. And while many of these players feature exciting tools, many of their spring seasons were somewhat pedestrian.
Yet that is exactly what collegiate summer leagues are hoping to achieve: the unlocking of potential for talented players who need more baseball repetitions. And the culture of Alaska and the ABL is the perfect low-stress environment for this endeavor.

Top 5 Prospect Reports
1. Quin Cotton, of, Mat-Su (Grand Canyon/SO in 2018)
The previously drafted Cotton (Rockies 2016, 38th round) has WAC Player of the Year upside and he punctuated a solid freshman spring with an outstanding summer. This is a player with extreme power yet it was Cotton winning the ABL batting title with a .331 average that stood out. Outfielders with his combination of compact strength (5-foot-11, 200-pounds) and electric bat speed are hard to find and Cotton profiles as a middle-of-the-order righthanded hitter.
