Mid-Atlantic Regional Notes


Stellar teams from around the country laced up their cleats to compete in the Perfect Game Super 25 series Mid-Atlantic Regional Qualifier this weekend, based in Vineland, New Jersey. Before the playoffs begin, it’s time to look at highlights from the Pool play portion of the tournament, beginning with the matchups from Friday night.

The Hammerheads Class of 2022 OF Luke Digiovannantoni started his weekend off in grand style, racking up a nightly high of 4 RBIs. Digiovannantoni ripped an RBI single to center and capped his night off with an inside-the-park home run. The Hammerheads won their first matchup of the weekend 15-6 over New Jersey Baseball 14u.

Dominating on the other side of the ball on Friday night was 2022 RHP/IF Brandon Sharkey. Sharkey navigated his way through three innings of scoreless ball, striking out five and allowing only one hit. Sharkey sat in the mid-70s throughout his appearance and showcased good command, throwing nearly 80 percent of his pitches for strikes.

Saturday’s 33-game slate was filled with intense action as teams battled for playoff position. Philly Bell Ringers 14u red showcased their young hitting talent throughout the day. 2022 OF/P Kevin Henrich flashed exceptional ability at the plate, doubling and homering on Saturday to aid the Bell Ringers effort. 2022 OF/P Sammy Benignati also hit well for the Bell Ringers on Saturday, adding to the hit parade on Saturday with a homer of his own.

Adrenaline Baseball’s Ryan Zuckerman paced all hitters on Saturday, racking up four hits including a double and a triple. Zuckerman tallied three RBIs on the day. Also dominating at the plate was Jack O’Donnell of Full Count Baseball. O’Donnell recorded four hits and knocked in one run while scoring five runs, which led all players in the tournament.

Another star on the mound early in the event was Saturday morning starter 14u Sportika Gallagher Elite Blue’s Anthony Gubitosi. Gubitosi went 5.1 innings, sitting in the mid-70s with his fastball from the left side. During his outing Gubitosi struck out 8 Evoshield Canes hitters, leading to a 3-2 Gallagher victory.

The South Jersey Young Guns 2022 RHP Michael Flax dominated Saturday afternoon, tossing a complete game shutout in a win over New Jersey Baseball 14u. Flax allowed only three hits during his outing, striking out three and allowing no walks on the day. Flax flashed a big fastball, topping out at 81 with his fastball.

Also showcasing impressive ability on the mound was 2022 RHP Nicholas Vasquez. Striking out the side to the begin his outing, Vasquez showed great fastball command and a young frame the projects to add plenty of velocity. Vasquez struck out six on the day, allowing only one hit and giving up no earned runs.

As the playoff round begins expect there to be more highlights throughout the day as teams prepare for a championship run. The Championship will be held at the Chelsea Heights turf field in Atlantic City, New Jersey at 5 p.m.
