All Stars win 14u Mid-Atlantic

Andrew Snyder

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – All Star Academy Elite defeated the Philly Bell Ringers 14u to take home a Super25 regional victory this weekend. Both teams executed both defensively and at the plate, but in the end one team left with the hardware.

Tournament MV-Player Austin Francis destroyed baseballs all weekend, knocking in five runs while also scoring five times and playing a huge part in the weekend-long success. Francis flashed two-way potential in the championship game, allowing only four hits on the mound over the course of six scoreless innings.

All Star Academy Elite’s Sam Falace was impressive in the final matchup, going three for three. Falace singled three times and scored twice in the wining effort. Jake Sparks was also good at the dish for ASAE, recording two hits including an RBI triple to left-center field that brought in the bottom of the second inning.

For the Bell Ringers Kevin Henrich preformed well on the mound despite allowing three earned runs. Henrich tossed a complete game, striking out eight ASAE hitters and walking none to earn a tough loss.

Performing well at the plate for the Bell Ringers were CJ Wood and Owen Mathers. The tandem had two hits apiece, with Mathes knocking in the sole run for the team.

The Bell Ringers came into the game after winning on a walk-off over Adrenaline Baseball, while ASAE inched by Frasier’s Downtown Academy to reach the final game.

The game kicked off with a scoreless first inning for both sides, as both Francis and Henrich were on early, resting in the high-70s with their fastballs.

The ASAE offense came alive in the bottom of the second, scoring two to break the scoreless seal. After a Sam Falace single Jake Sparks hit an RBI triple in the left center gap. Jackson Lilley followed suit, scoring Sparks on a single to right field.

After a scoreless third inning and a mute top of the fourth for the Bell Ringers, ASAE added on to their lead. After reaching on a drop third strike, Michael Kennedy made his way to third base and eventually scored on an RBI single up the middle from Jake Sparks, pushing the ASAE lead to three heading into the fifth inning.

ASAE tacked on another run in the bottom half of the sixth inning, meaning a tough road ahead for the Bell Ringers going into their last chance for a comeback. Not to be deterred the Bell Ringers attempted to claw back in the game.

CJ Wood started the rally with a single to left, and Kevin Henrich reached on an error, allowing Wood to circle the bases for the Bell Ringers first run. After a hit by pitch Owen Mathers delivered another run, hitting a clutch RBI single to right. After Mathers single Henrich scored on a passed ball with Sammy Benvignati at the plate making the score 4-3 with the tying run at third base.

ASAE would not be denied a championship, however, as Lefty Reliever Jerek Hobb shut the door with two clutch strikeouts to hand ASAE the tournament victory.
