MARIETTA, Ga. – Yet another Perfect Game tournament champion trophy will be put in the indoor facility at the East Cobb Baseball Complex in Marietta, Ga. After a long day of baseball, both teams decided to crown themselves as co-champs and not play out the championship game

The championship game for the 2020 Perfect Game 18U Summer Shootout Championship was set up to be an in-house affair on Thursday night with the East Cobb Astros 18U taking on the East Cobb Astros 17U. .

The 18U Astros squad did not have much trouble making it to the championship game. In three pool play games, the Astros staff, stacked with D-1 commits, including LSU and South Carolina, only allowed two runs while the offensive side took care of business scoring 29 runs. The 18U squad took care of both teams in the quarterfinals and semifinals, run ruling the ECB Astros 17U White in the semis. Two of the three final games today were played against other East Cobb Astros teams, a position that the Astros players often find themselves in as they are one of the more premier organizations in all of the Southeast.

The 17U Astros squad also went undefeated in pool play posting a 22 run differential only allowing one run. Unlike the 18U squad, the 17U team found themselves in some trouble in the semifinal game, ultimately winning in extra innings 5-4. Class of 2022’s number one ranked shortstop in the United States, Termarr Johnson, went 2-3 with 2 RBIs for the 17U squad powering them to the championship. Johnson also added a monstrous home run in the quarterfinals and celebrated accordingly with a rather entertaining bat flip. Carter Wright, class of 2021’s 8th ranked catcher in the state of Georgia, came up with the game winning 2-RBI base hit.

Both East Cobb Astros teams will be competing in the 2020 WWBA 18U National Championships starting on Saturday, June 20th. The 18U squad will take on Canes Georgia 17U Gold on Saturday the 20th at 10:15 a.m. at East Cobb, which will be followed by four more pool play games before bracket play. The 17U squad will face Next Level Baseball Bruce on Sunday the 21st at 10:15 a.m. at East Cobb as well. The 17U squad will also play four more pool play games before bracket play begins.

Perfect Game is the perfect opportunity to come out and watch some outstanding baseball.
