Coastal Fall Championship Scout Notes: Day 1

Todd Coffey
Landon Sykes (Holly Springs, NC 2022) was firing on all cylinders and going right after the hitters starting with his first pitch. The uncommitted right-handed pitcher, who plays for the TPA Nationals 17U Black, has great life and hill action on his fastball with great command on both sides of the plate. Sykes mixed pitches very well, which kept the hitters off-balance all game. He went three innings giving up no hits and striking out six.

Richard Sales (Pinehurst, NC 2021) had a very dominant performance in the first game of the weekend. The UNC-Wilmington commit is a right handed pitcher for the TRI State Arsenal 2020 Scout and was in control from the start of the game striking out the side in the second inning with great command of his fastball that has late life and topped 90 mph. Finishing the game pitching five innings while giving up only three hits, no runs, and striking out ten.

Cam Williams (Holly Springs, NC 2022) was hitting the ball hard all over the field in his first game of the weekend. The uncommitted right-handed hitter playing for the TPA Nationals 17U Black was seeing the ball very well as he smashed the ball into the right center gap in the top of the seventh inning for a stand up triple. Finished going two for four with three runs scored.

Spencer Floyd (Newton, NC 2021) was nearly unhittable for his first game of the weekend. The right handed pitcher is committed to play for Lenoir-Rhyne and started the day off striking out the side. Floyd has late life on his fastball that was topping 86 mph and sitting 83 mph. He also mixed in a breaking ball with good depth and kept the hitters off-balance. Finishing the night pitching four innings and only giving up one hit with seven strikeouts.

Vance Visser (Davie County, NC 2022) had a great start for the US Elite 2022 NC Prospects and was almost unhittable. The uncommitted right-handed pitcher had great command all game with every pitch by moving the fastball on both sides of the plate and showing a breaking ball the hitters could never pick up. Visser didn’t give up a hit until the sixth inning. Finished pitching six innings and only gave up one hit with 10 strikeouts.
