Jack Frankel (2024, Plano, TX) entered the event as one of the top ranked righthanders in the 2024 class (No. 11 prospect overall) and his brief two inning stint did nothing but solidify his lofting status. Strongly built at 6-foot-2, 183 pounds, Frankel has already developed a reputation for his ability to pound the strike zone with a rather refined operation on the mound, something we saw over his two shutout frames in which he struck out 4 with allowing a base hit or a walk.

The limited pitch count all but confirms we’ll see Frankel again later in the tournament though his opening day outing provided a solid look at what he brings to the mound. Looking as though he were playing a game of catch given the ease of his delivery and release, Frankel ran his fastball up to 87 mph and sat comfortably in the mid-80s, missing a handful of bats in the process while filling the zone. Frankel’s timing of his delivery allows him to consistently work on top of the fastball while creating short running life to his arm side, allowing his slider to play nicely off of the heater. While it’s not big in shape, the slider is tight and spun with authority as it worked in the upper-70s and it’s an offering that has continued to develop nicely for Frankel who has shown a quality changeup in outings prior.
