Carson Byers (2022, Mattawan, Mich.) got the start for his Chi Town Cream squad in the first game of pool play and threw a gem as he tossed a complete game shutout. The southpaw utilized a sturdy, filled out build as he pounded the strike zone. Whip to the arm showing as he sat in the mid-80s and topped out at 86 mph. Pinpoint command with the heater as he created arm side run. Proved he could get it under hands of hitters as he missed barrels for the entirety of his outing. Also mixed in a tight spinning breaker in the mid-70s that flashed 2-to-8 movements with short vertical life. Natural deception as he delivered from a three-quarter slot and tunneled the breaking ball well. The Miami (Ohio) commit only gave up a pair of hits on the day and struck out eight in seven innings tossed. Look for Byers to continue to progress this summer and make another jump before he leaves high school. Don’t be surprised if you see him step onto campus and instantly put his name in the hate for a starting role on the pitching staff.

Jared Jones (2022, Marietta, Ga.) continues to be one of the most prolific hitters in his class as he is a problem for opposing pitching staffs. The LSU commit started the day off slow as they threw around him a bit, which seems to be the recurring theme. The size and strength here play in a big way as he stands at a towering 6-foot-5 and is north of 225 pounds. The right-handed stick took some big hacks at the dish but make no mistake, the approach is next level as he knows when to tone it down and find a barrel. He did just that during the first game of pool play as he came up in a big situation with a scoreless ball game and two runners in scoring position. He ended up barreling one up to center field and knocked in a pair of runs while doing so. In the second game of the day, he doubled and added another RBI to his name. He possesses one of the quickest bats you will find in the class and the upside from a power standpoint is immense. We saw him at first base during the action and although we typically see him behind the dish, you will start to see more of him at first both in his prep days and at the next level. Either way, the bat is always going to be his top tool and it should be an exciting summer of watching him punish baseballs.
